The Diplomacy Training Program’s 13th Annual Human Rights and People’s Diplomacy Training Program for Human Rights Defenders from the Asia-Pacific Region and Indigenous Australia was held in Bangkok, Thailand from the 3rd-20th of February 2003.

The program was attended by 20 human rights defenders from 10 countries including Australia, Burma, Cambodia, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Nepal, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea and Sri Lanka. The official opening ceremony included addresses from Professor Surapol Nitikraipot, Dean of the Faculty of Law at Thammasat University and Deputy Professor Toen Tongkaew, President of the Institute of Rajabhat Chandrakasem. The keynote speech was delivered by Mr. Asda Jayanama, former Ambassador of Thailand to the UN in New York.

The generosity of our trainers contributed greatly to the success of the Program as they ran sessions on issues including health, the environment, globalisation, the use of media and internet, international law and the UN and its Human Rights Conventions and mechanisms. The course was positively evaluated by participants at the end of the program.

The Diplomacy Training Program would like to express its appreciation and thanks to all who made the Program possible including speakers, organisers and financial supporters. Finally, the DTP would like to thank the participants who contributed so much to the success of the program.
